FitDay: Free Online Diet Log

A friend I met through online running forums told me about FitDay, and I wanted to pass the tip along.

FitDay offers a free online diet and food log on its website.

Registering for a free account gives you access to a detailed food logging tool, including pre-set nutritional information for hundreds of foods, including well-known brand names. The tool also allows you to create "custom foods" and save nutritional info.

After choosing/creating a food, you can add it to your "foods eaten today" list, and adjust the serving quantity/size as needed. The log will track total calories consumed in a day, calories from fat, protein, and carbs, and so forth.

But FitDay's online tool is a lot more than a food diary. Your account also gives you access to:

  • a page for setting weight goals and tracking progress
  • an exercise and fitness log which calculates calories burned through various exercises and compares that to your daily caloric intake
  • a "reports" tool to analyze your progress
  • an online journal which you can keep private or share with others as you choose

The company offers these excellent online tools in order to give you a taste of what their desktoop software includes. I haven't been tempted to buy the software yet -- the online tools are so comprehensive, I don't feel like I need the software at this point.

However, if I change my mind, I'll certainly post a review here!
